Research Interests

Dr. Xiang   specializes in the broad area of sustainability with special focus on clean   energy technologies. His research and consulting work has been supported by more   than 30 grants from the NSF of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of   China, China Huadian Corp., China Guodian Corp., and power plants. In the   past two decades, he paid lots attention to the modeling and control of   thermal system (such as pressurized fluidized bed combustion combined cycle,   integrated gasification combined cycle, and nature gas combined cycle), coal   gasification, and development of energy-saving technology. His several   patents on energy- saving have been used in many power plants.

In recent   years, Dr. Xiang’s research interests include two- fluidized- beds biomass   gasification, iron oxide oxygen carrier based three- fluidized- beds chemical   looping hydrogen generation, and two- fluidized- beds calcium-looping   hydrogen generation. Several test rigs, including cold models and hot rigs,   have been built to verify the feasibilities of chemical looping combustion, chemical   looping hydrogen generation and the two-bed biomass gasification.

Dr. Xiang earned his doctorate in thermal   engineering from Southeast University, China. He received a master’s and a   bachelor’s in thermal engineering from Tsinghua University, China.  Since 1989, he works in School of Energy   and Environment (former - Research Institute of thermal engineering),   Southeast University.
