The subject of Power Engineering in Southeast University was established in 1997 through the incorporation of the thermal power engineering and the thermal engineering. The subject was founded in 1932 and to date, 6074 undergraduates, 1063 postgraduates and 287 PhD students were graduated in this subject. Thermal Engineering in Southeast University was awarded as the state-key subject (Rank 6th in China), and the key constructive subject of "985" and "211" Project, including one department (Thermal Engineering), one MoE key laboratory (Key Laboratory of Thermal Energy Conversion and Control of MOE) and three research centers (National Engineering Research Center of Turbo-Generator vibration, Engineering Research Center for Building Energy Environments & Equipments, Ministry of Education, Pollution Control and Recycling Engineering Research Center of Jiangsu Province). There are 66 full-time teachers, including an academician of China Engineering Academy (The most-honored title for academics in China), 36 professors (27 doctoral supervisors) and A Changjiang Scholar awarded by MoE of China. During the past five years, the subject was supported by a great number of funding from different panels, such as National “973 Program”, “863 Program”, NSFC and province government. The amount of funding exceeded 100 million CNY. The “II medal” of National Science and Technology Progress Award was awarded to researchers in this subject by MoST of China in 2010, and other provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress award for about 12 times.
