Refrigeration and Cryogenic Technology

The direction emphatically carries out the new Refrigeration method and the theory, method and technology research of heat and mass transfer in refrigeration and air conditioning, heat pump, solar refrigeration and power generation, absorption refrigeration , cryogenic technology and mini refrigerating machine to break through the bottleneck of the key technology and develop a series of  efficient refrigeration and cryogenic technology and products with the need of refrigeration and cryogenic system and the development of device, focusing on scientific problems of technology innovation and energy saving in refrigeration and cryogenic technology. It has won over 50 the national invention patent authorization and more than 40 SCI papers published in Journal of high level international as International Journal of Refrigeration .It also has won the Provincial first prizes of 2 times, and the second-class awards of 5 times.

 

Our institution has already obtained some important research achievements. Such as:

●New refrigeration method

Southeast University carries out long-term Study on new refrigeration technology. It launches a series of in-depth study in the aspects of compression refrigeration, dehumidification evaporation cooling, storage and alternative refrigerants, particularly with the formation of a certain characteristic in the field dehumidification evaporation cooling. With the funding of basic research projects as a number of National Natural Science Foundation, It has developed the heat driven (50~80) model of liquid desiccant air conditioning technology to adapt to the climate characteristics in hot summer and cold winter area. It has put forward a new approach and system of the preparation fluid ice based on deep dehumidification solution, providing a new technical method for the cold storage air conditioner. Simultaneously it launches many new refrigeration technology researches in cascade refrigeration, auto-cascade refrigeration and jet refrigeration etc., on the basis of which it develops a series of systems and equipment. Related research results "new efficient technology and equipment of building heat and cold energy supply in hot summer and cold winter area” has won the first technology invention prize by the Ministry of Education.

 

●The heat and mass transfer in the refrigeration and air conditioning

With the funding of projects as National Natural Science Foundation, Southeast University successively has conducted very fruitful research work In boiling heat transfer mechanism of the cryogenic refrigerant, thermal properties measurement, the refrigerant heat and mass transfer properties, heat transfer by small temperature difference, numerical evaluation of heat and mass transfer and high efficiency heat exchanger. Currently it has formed the characteristic in the refrigerant heat and mass transfer properties, boiling heat transfer mechanism of the cryogenic refrigerant, heat transfer by small temperature difference and high efficiency heat exchanger.  Related studies have made a series of achievements that "Fractal construction of micro structure and its heat and mass transfer mechanism research” has won the first natural science prize by the Ministry of Education and that achievements has won the third technology progress prize as  " air conditioner heat exchanger‘s comprehensive performance experiment device” and applied to Chunlan group and other large enterprises, which generate large the economic and social benefits.

 

●Heat pump technology

With the funding of projects as the national science and technology support program, Southeast University has launched the  researches of heat pump technology as air source heat pump and its defrosting, ground source heat pump, heat source tower heat pump, gas engine driven heat pump ,heat pump drying etc. Developed New type of cold, warm and hot water integrated household air source heat pump unit has been widely used in the GREE electrical appliances and other large refrigeration business. Research production “‘R&D’ and systematic energy saving’ and optimization of system of the new heat pump air conditioning units’ key technology and equipment” has won the second of Jiangsu provincial scientific and technological progress prize, “heating household central air conditioning setting integrated multi-function with cold and hot radiation and living hot water” science and technology excellent award by the Chinese Federation of light industry.

 

●Solar refrigeration and power generation technology

With the funding of National Natural Science Foundation and the project of national 863 high and new technologies, Southeast University has developed research on solar refrigeration and power generation technology, making a series of achievements. It has developed the solar desiccant evaporative cooling technology and equipment using solar energy as the driving source and air conditioning system and device of double effect absorption type of ground source heat pump driven by solar, realizing double efficient utilization of the solar refrigeration and heating .It also has developed a realization of comprehensive and efficient integration system of solar photoelectricity and photothermal. Research production “the research and Application of Building integrated solar photovoltaic and photothermal composite system and key technology” has picked up the second Jiangsu provincial scientific and technological progress prize, “the construction and the research of the key technology of the new type of solar liquid desiccant refrigeration’s air conditioning system” the second of Ministry of Education awarded Technology Invention Prize.”

 

●Absorption refrigeration technology

Southeast University is one of the earliest domestic universities that began to study the absorption refrigeration technology, making a series of significant results. And the results have the successful implementation on the industrial application, with it completing two-stage ammonia water absorption refrigeration machine with the first set of 350kW capacity utilizing industrial waste heat. The Results “two-stage ammonia water absorption refrigeration machine utilizing industrial waste heat” has picked up the third of Jiangsu provincial scientific and technological progress prize. In recent years, under nearly 10 projects of the National Natural Science Fund and the support of provincial basic research project, it probes the theory of ammonia solution absorption enhancement and studies the technology on efficient heat transfer enhancement of the type of lithium bromide absorption. It acquires the breakthroughs in the filed of absorption refrigeration and its compact research and lays the foundation for the application of absorption refrigeration machine utilizing waste heat and renewable energy.

 

●Refrigeration technology and small-sized refrigerating machine

With the support of national science and technology projects, National Natural Science Fund and provincial major scientific research project, Southeast University lunches the researches of refrigeration GM helium refrigerator, multi-stage high frequency pulse tube refrigerator, miniature sterling refrigerator, freeze – drying at low-temperature and other cryogenic technology. Research results “small-sized cryogenic refrigerator” has awarded the National Science Conference prize, “heat and mass transfer theory of microwave freeze drying process” the second natural science prize by the Ministry of Education.

 

Currently the focuses of research are as including follows:

(1) "Novel method of refrigeration (desiccant evaporative cooling technology, fluid icy cooling technology, cascade and cascade-self technology, jet refrigeration technology);

(2) Heat and mass transfer in the refrigeration and air conditioning (the enhancement of  heat and mass transfer,  small temperature difference heat transfer at low temperature, the enhancement effect of nanometer particles for boiling );

(3) Heat pump technology (air source heat pump and its defrosting, ground source heat pump, heat source tower heat pump, gas engine driven heat pump , heat pump drying);

(4) Solar refrigeration and power generation, (solar driven desiccant cooling, solar absorption refrigeration, solar energy photovoltaic and thermal comprehensive utilization);

(5) Absorption refrigeration technology (ammonia water absorption refrigeration, lithium bromide absorption refrigeration);

(6) Refrigeration technology and small-sized refrigerating machine (Refrigeration sterling refrigerator, GM refrigeration, freeze – drying at low-temperature).
