Pollution Control and Recycling Engineering Research Center of Jiangsu Province

The establishment of the Pollution Control and Recycling Engineering Research Center of Jiangsu Province was approved by the Jiangsu Science & Technology Department in 2009, on the basis of the doctoral degree program of a first level discipline--Environmental Science and Engineering. The Research Center has been focusing mainly on (1) the R&D, consulting, and technical service involving air pollution control, water pollution control and solid waste treatment and resource recovery technology; (2) the research and debugging of environmental protection engineering equipment; (3) the improvement and operation service of environmental protection engineering, etc. A total amount of 31,892,000 RMB was invested on the project.


There are bases in SEU Wuxi, International Environment Center in Gaocheng, Yixing and the lakeside of Taihu, etc., for purposes of experiment, R&D of engineering technology and promotion.


In the past 3 years, the Center has completed 2 “973” projects, 5 major national science and technology projects, 6 “863” projects, 10 NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China) projects, 14 other vertical projects at different levels and 5 enterprise-cooperative projects. 58 patents have been approved and 19 patents have been granted. 172 scientific papers and 2 treatises have been published. Also, 1 Software Copyright has been applied and 2 professional norms have been made. Besides, a few high level research results have been achieved such as 1 National Grade II Prize of Science and Technology Progress and 2 Grade II Prizes of Outstanding Research Achievement Award (Science and Technology) for universities granted by Ministry of Education.


The major fields are air pollution control, water pollution control and solid waste treatment and resource recovery. Related research bases have been constructed in Nanjing, Wuxi and Yixing, including 14 research platforms such as “Pilot platform for nitrogen and phosphorus removal from rural domestic wastewater”, “Experiment platform for recycling and reuse of Cyan bacteria”, “Experiment platform for desulphurization and denitrification in Yixing” and “Experiment base for sludge depth dehydration-drying-Multi-stage incineration experiment”.


According to the research direction, offices for researchers, R&D labs and pilot experiment areas were established in Wuxi, Yixing and Nanjing. The total area was 10950m2, composed of 850 m2 for offices, 3600 m2 for R&D labs and 6500 m2 for pilot experiment areas (industrial testing areas). Besides, during the construction of the Center, another 350 m2 was added into offices, 2000 m2 was added into R&D labs, and 300 m2 was added into pilot experiment areas.


32 fixed researchers work for the Center now, whose majors cover environmental engineering, thermal power engineering, renewable energy sources, chemical engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources Science, environmental management, chemical machinery, environmental biology, and municipal engineering. An open and flowing employment mechanism was built, so that they became a group of talents with reasonable age structure, compatible expertise and strong ability of technology innovation-- industrialization of research results--achievements popularization. Moreover, 5 visiting specialists were employed.


Through organizations like technology innovation platforms and mobile post-doctoral stations, the Center maintains close connections and builds good relations of cooperation with engineering and technical section, large enterprise groups and universities, which involves gas desulfurization denitration, water disposal, ecological restoration of water environment, and solid waste disposal and resource recovery. For example, the Center carries out researches on salvage, disposal and reuse of Cyan bacteria on a large scale, collaborating with Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, China Ship Scientific Research Center, Institute of Hydrobiology, China Academy of Sciences, Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Environmental Science; it conducts researches on supporting systems of rural domestic sewage treatment, cooperating with Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chongqing University; it carries on R&D of simulation and control technology during water treatment, with East China University of Science and Technology; it undertakes a “863” program which includes researches on species, method and equipment of treating SO2 and NOX simultaneously using new catalysis-bioanalysis method, with Yunnan University. Besides, cooperation involving sludge deep dehydration, industrial water treatment, industrial waste gas disposal, with over 20 companies like Wuxi Guolian Environmental Science and Technology Co., Ltd, JCOC Enterprise, Suzhou Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd, Yangzi Petrochemical Company, Jiangsu Electric Power Design Institute, resolves practical problems in production.
