Program for Master in Ecology

DisciplineEcology

 (Discipline Code: 071300)

Introduction

The Ecology graduate program includes four main research directions, which are "Environmental Eco-system Restoration", "Environmental Microbiology", "Ecological Materials Science and Applications", and "Macro- and Micro-ecosystems Analysis ".

"Environmental Eco-system Restoration" focuses on the construction of eutrophic water body ecological restoration theory and system, water source area protection theory and technology, and innovation ecological restoration technology development for water environment; "Environmental Microbiology" focuses on the influence of environmental pollution on the structure, function and diversity of microbial ecosystem, and the interaction mechanism between algicidal bacteria and algae; "Ecological Materials Science and Applications" focuses on ecological construction material, and microbial preparation technology for environmental eco-construction materials; “Macro- and Micro-ecosystems Analysis" focuses on micro-eco-system analysis, molecularly imprinted polymer materials, high resolution remote control application, ecological and geological environment survey and analysis.

Research Direction

"Environmental Eco-system Restoration", "Environmental Microbiology", "Ecological Materials Science and Applications", and "Macro- and Micro-ecosystems Analysis ".

Training Objectives

The academic program contribute to fulfill the need of self-motivated, highly competitiveskilled, confident, independent and creative graduates, in the areas of environmental ecology, eco-system restoration theory, microbiology and ecotoxicology . Meanwhile, the graduates are required to be proficient in one kind of foreign languages.

Training Period

Generally, the students are expected to graduate in 2 to 2.5 years, longest may delay for 3 years.

Credit Requirements and Curriculum (see attached list)

Thesis

Literature reading requirements, thesis written request, publication achievement requirements etc.

Literature Reading (for reference only, the same below)

Students are required to read at least 20 literatures on topics related to their thesis and research direction including 8 literatures in foreign languages and to write a literature overview.

Thesis Writing

In addition to compliance with the provisions of school, thesis must be written in a systematic and complete manner, presenting clear concepts, correct argument, realistic description, concise writing structure, smooth and concise writing style, correct calculation, reliable data, and clear icons.

Thesis Evaluation

Thesis should be written based on students’ own study and research. The findings presented in the thesis should have higher academic value and positive impact on economic development of China. Students are required to conduct at least one year research before being eligible for applying for a Master's degree. Students should publish at least one paper in the area of their disciplines, or apply for a national patent of invention (be first inventor or the second following the supervisor).
