Introduction of the "Outstanding engineers training plan" of Environmental Engineering of Southeast University

This program aims to cultivate high-end environmental engineers who have sound personality and noble sentiment, solid foundation, broad scope of knowledge, strong project implementation capability, they are able to track the new theory and new technologies in the field and have innovative spirit and internationalized vision; and then fostering leaders who are management of the backbone, they are engaged in the research and development of projects, organizing and coordinating major projects, and striving to make technological breakthrough, planning and design, construction and operation of technology.

 

Modern large project is the main line, the training scheme consist of course module (including theory course and practice course), engineering training module, research module and vocational education module, they form a high-level engineering education training system. The course modules include courses of different nature and level, such as the university general education, interdisciplinary courses, undergraduate courses, multidisciplinary Master's platform and Doctor’s platform course; the engineering training modules include engineering division design (course design), single engineering design and integrated engineering design; the research modules include engineering application research and engineering basic research; the vocational education module include engineering cognition, professional training and professional practice. The engineering practice consisted of engineering training and professional education is throughout the whole training program. Modules of different levels can be combined into different training standards, there is a good interoperability between different specifications; and modules of different nature and levels have a good compatibility.

 

The curriculum of "Outstanding engineers training plan" will embody the principle of integration, correlation and practice, highlight the environmental professional course module on the basis of the original general education curriculum which embody the thought of large engineering education, it teaches students how to analyze and solve problems, reflecting the thought of engineering education geared to the needs of practice; embodying the vocational course modules which include professional training, professional practice and continuing education, and containing the content of entrepreneurship and employment education at the same time. The three modules with their respective functions connect with each other, they have mutual promotion and fusion, and can achieve unity in the systematic curriculum system, reflecting the integration of humanistic spirit, scientific literacy and innovation ability of modern engineering education. The course module settings of different professional training mode can be different, modules of different levels can be combined into different training standards, there is a good interoperability between different specifications; and modules of different nature and levels have a good compatibility. In terms of course type expansion, we will also increase the proportion of introductory class, project class and seminar, regarding the project engineering design as the main line. We will add courses in English and bilingual teaching courses to enhance students' ability of international communicative competence.

 

The university general education course lasts for two years, and the interdisciplinary foundation platform last for half and a year, it lasts for half and three years if the two modules overlap moderately. Students select categories and continue to complete the general education for interdisciplinary platform courses at the same time after a year of general education and engineering cognition; Participate in project design (graduation design) and get the bachelor's degree in engineering. Students who choose to study for a professional master's degree are fostered with the enterprise after a year of the platform of master course study, then carrying out master thesis work of professional degree and get a master's degree in engineering. Students obtained a master's degree in engineering can choose a year of Dr Platform course and go into the phase of Doctor learning, the Doctoral students obtained their Ph.D. degree after completing two years of the PhD thesis project for basic research; The Undergraduate and graduate students can obtains the qualification of a certified environmental engineer after two to four years of professional practice.
