Short Brief CV - Dr. Hua QIAN
Dr. Hua QIAN joined the School of Energy and Environment, SoutheastUniversity in 2008 as an associate professor. Dr. Qian was graduated from ShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity as B.Sc. and M. Sc, and he received his PhD in building service from the University of Hong Kong in 2007.
Dr. QIAN's current research interests cover indoor air quality, bioaerosols, and engineering control of infectious diseases, natural ventilation. As a part of his PhD studies, he focused on studying ventilation for controlling airborne infection after SARS outbreak in 2003. He improved a multizone modeling program MIX to calculate natural ventilation flow rate with large opening with bi-direction flow using FORTRAN. He employed CFD, building ventilation theory, field measurement, natural ventilation, multizone model and airborne infection theory to understand the transmitted route of SARS outbreaks with cooperation with medical scientists. In a team environment, his work led to the findings of role played by airflows in the Ward 8A SARS outbreak in Hong Kong [Building and environment 44(8):1651-1658, Indoor air 15(2):83-95] and a vertical transmission route in SARS outbreak in a hospital in Beijing in 2003[have not been published]. The findings are helpful to develop proper engineering methods to reduce cross infection. He also contributed to isolation room ventilation theory and technologies. He employed tracer gas, particles in full-scale wards and CFD simulations to systematically study droplet dispersion theory in isolation rooms. He found that the displacement ventilation system and the CDC recommended downward ventilation could not work as expected and proposed an improved downward ventilation system to reduce cross infection in isolation room.[Indoor air 16(2):111-128, Indoor air 20(4):284-297,Building and environment 43(3):344-354, Building simulation 3:215-224]. He also studied the potential of using natural ventilation for airborne infections. [Building and Environment 45(3):595-565; WHO guideline]. He also developed a machine and program to calculate heat transfer of ground source heat pump( Energy and Buildings, in press). He joined a project CCHH to study the relationship between indoor environment and children health recently and in charge of the study in Nanjing (Chinese Bulletin of Science, under review) .
Qian has published 40 articles including 15 journal papers. His papers have been cited more than 300 times by ISI papers. One of first author papers was conferred The Best Paper Award of Indoor Air Journal 2008-2010 and one co-authored paper was conferred The Best Paper Award of Indoor Air Journal 2005-2007 by the International Academy of Indoor Air Quality. He is a co-author of the WHO guideline: Natural ventilation for infection control in health-care settings. He has given >10 oral presentations in international conferences including an invited lecture in ASHRAE annual meeting. He is also awarded the Best Oral Presentation in ACRA (Asia Conference of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) in
